    75g Jaguar Breeding Project

I have the other fish all moved out and the new jags are settling in. I still have yet to see the female eat anything, but she doesnt seem too stressed out. When should i be concerned if she is still not eating much, if any? The male has been taking the odd pellet, and has gotten a taste for fresh earthworms out of the garden, i have seen him take a few and pull one up out of the gravel.

They both had a few marks on them from fighting with their tankmates when i got them, but they seem to be healing up fine already. The male had a mark on one eye i was kinda worried about, but that seems to be better even just overnight. He was picking on her a bit when i removed their tankmates, but it seems to have evened out, and they are swimming together and rubbing against each other once in a while. I hope its jaguar flirtation ha ha.

Ill post some more pics and maybe a video when i get back to a computer...

Glad to hear they are settling it! I am sure she will start eating with time. Are you feeding the same food as the previous owner?

He was feeding them nothing but cichlid pellets, so I have been tossing a few of them in at feeding time. They seem to disappear fairly shortly even though Ive never seen her eat yet. Just started with the worms a couple days ago, the male ate 5 in a row today, he has definitely caught on to that game.

A few new pics of the Jags. Note the overturned skull ornament and good sized piece of driftwood. Id say thats where the new marks on them came from...

Well i feel better about her tonight, she took a worm off the bottom of the tank and then took 4 more small ones when i dropped them right on her snout. Good to see her eat something finally :)

Jags are doing good, female seems to be getting more black to her coloration than when i got them. Having trouble with getting the tank warm enough though, sitting around 80 at the moment...

The male was pretty wound up after I changed their water tonight, he was striking at the vacuum the whole time I was in there. At least he hits the tube at the bottom instead of where my hand is, it looks like it might actually hurt if he got my hand. As soon as I was done he started redecorating their tank...

My buddy had a big male jag years ago, ended up around 12-13". He had to watch it when he was in the tank or hed be bleeding, that fish was extremely aggressive.

Temps are starting to come up after a slight heater modification. They seem to be getting more active, especially the female, who isnt shying away from the male as much now as she has been.

Nothing too exciting to report, although the female is getting more comfortable looking and sticking up for herself more and more. Ive actually watched her put the run to him a couple times, thats a big change from nose in the corner hoping hell leave her alone. Twice now ive seen them liplocked and pushing each other around a bit, and they both have a few light scratches on their snouts, although nothing serious. Good to see some back and forth interaction at least, instead of him looking like the drunk pushy guy at the bar hitting on a chick lol.

Its kinda strange, they havent been big eaters for me, i had them eating earthworms pretty steady but then they got so they wouldnt take them at all. Then the worms would crawl into the gravel and foul up the water. Ive been feeding them 15-20 medium pellets once a day lately and they usually clean it all up. Mix of cichlid pellets, spirulina pellets and carnivore pellets. Thats what the guy i got them from was feeding them. I have some repashy spawn n grow that ive been meaning to mix up, i may try some of that too...
