Yepper, its a good sight to see. By the looks of it today there are only a handful of eggs that didnt get fertilized (turned white). There must be at least a thousand eggs there... Surprising from a smaller female.

So i didnt update, but the fry got to the wiggler stage and the parents ate them overnight... Damn things. Waiting on another bunch, the female has been busy digging a new pit. Im hoping they just werent ready last time.

Been a while since an update. Had a few more batches of eggs, and the parents ate them every time just as they were getting to be free swimming. Tonight i geared up a siphon hose on a stick and snuck in and sucked out a bunch of babies. Theyre now in a small tank in my rack, fingers crossed the damn things will survive ha ha

Update on the jags. Separating the fry didnt work, somehow every single fry that i moved, as well as the ones left in the 125, died on the same day about a week later. Then the 125 sprung a leak (which really sucked), so i moved them into my 90 temporarily. Then he beat the crap out of her (too small of a tank im guessing) so i moved her to a 55. I just got my 125 resealed and set up again, and have the female in there now. Im planning on introducing the other male here soon to see if i have better luck with fry surviving.

This has been frustrating to say the least. At first i thought the parents were eating the fry once they became free swimming, but after moving half of them to a small tank and still having every single one die off at exactly the same time, it makes me think they died first and the parents were just cleaning up the dead ones. And nobody seems to have any advice for me, since jags usually breed very easily. Just add water im told lol. The only thing i can think of is that they had some sort of genetic problem that kept them from developing properly. Hopefully the new male gets along with her well and i can try again...

I find I have a higher survival rate if it's a bare bottom tank, no gravel. I use sponge filters or just shove a sponge over the intake on my HOB filter. Also keep them in the tank for a while to grow some and let the parents raise them some before either removing the fry or the parents. Feed them fry fish food flakes daily, brine shimp too if u have it. I've had a lot of them die off before many times due to dirty substrate. It's hard to vacuum gravel with tiny fry...

Thats the thing, i removed about half the fry the last time they bred after about a week and moved them to a 20g bare tank. Kinda thought the shock of the move would have killed them but it didnt. Then about a week later, every fry was dead in both tanks on the same morning....

Slow on the update, but i moved the male in a week or so ago. Bit of fighting at the start, but had a bunch of eggs a couple days later. They seem to be getting along good now, and the eggs have started to hatch into wigglers. Fingers crossed. Again. Lol

No new video yet, ill see what i can do once i figure out the dead wifi on my phone...

The little ones are all free swimming now, there must be 2-3000 of them at a guess. Todays project is to get some sponges over my filter intakes without bleeding lol. I may move some to a couple 20g tanks i have empty here soon. My spare 55 is taken up with an iridescent shark that i rescued from a small tank a week or so ago. Not sure what im gonna do in the long run...

Anyone have any suggestions? Id say they are ok for the moment, and id like to let the parents get used to raising their young as much as possible. I guess it ultimately comes down to freeing up tank space for grow out capacity...

I dont want to jinx it, but these are the longest-lived jag fry ive had yet.... Hoping it was a genetic problem or something similar to do with the other male....

If you are worried about losing any and wanted to be on the safe side you could always move some to another tank. Just incase the parents have a moment of weakness and chow down lol.

Well so far so good, i moved a couple hundred or so fry to a 20g bare tank and theyre doing great, eating fry food and growing away. The ones left in the main tank are nearly gone, im not sure if the parents ate them, but problem solved anyway ha ha. My extra 55g is empty and waiting for them to grow a bit more. Finally...
