    humbled

im a newbe to ecas very nice site. my son turned me on to it.
i keep my koi in very large dug pond 14-16' deep in the deepest. its spring fed along with 2 brooks entering. iv been keeping koi for over 30 years. i have 1 around 30 old had 2 that age, but one died after an eagle almost grabbed him. he got an infection over winter and died the next spring.
iv been building my fish up,nothing fancy or expensive. i find them all beautiful. last year was my second spawn, this year they spawned very well.but i lost 4 very large fish to an eagle. i put up a scare crow and 2 canada goose decoys on the pond.the only time the get grabbed is when they are spawning. i have 1000s of fry this year all colors of the rainbow.i have them feeding now.i was always under the impression they would eat their young at all stages. not true, they feed right alongside the big guys(some over 30")
im very impressed with the koi pictured here. my koi are mostly common koi.

That's a shame about the eagle, I hope your decoys/scare crow can keep the away! Congrats on the spawning :) would love to see pics!

Sorry about the eagle. It is so sad to lose such big fish you have had for so long. I knew a guy who strung heavy fishing line in a criss-cross pattern over the top of the pond. This kept eagles from swooping in and getting his fish.
