    Can a gar be with any other species

    Yep, just make sure its a aggressive species and will get similar size. Gar will eat basically anything smaller that can't defend self

    I have to disagree on aggressive tank mates.

    I've kept Gars (arowana ended up taking out my last one). They are predatory and will swallow smaller fish, I've seen the eat equal sized fish. Otherwise they are quite docile and flighty when spooked.

    They will not defend themselves against aggressive or territorial tank mates. Aggressive and even active fish tend to spook the resulting in then darting into walls and breaking their necks

    Gars mix well with other gars or bichirs, some bottom dwelling large catfish. Basically big lazy fish who won't fit in their mouths but won't bother them or move around to quickly/to much.
