    Ammonia API test kit

I have this API ammonia test kit that I am using for a new setup I have. The readings appeared to be off so I tested some new made saltwater that I had and the readings are the same for both types of water (tank and new saltwater). The problem is it reads them about 0.25 instead of 0. What am I missing here? Is my test kit no good.

There are exportation dates on test kits, this can also be sped up if left out to long or to much air gets at them. Sometimes they solidify a bit on the bottom and have to be "very vigorously" shaken and broken up to be dissolved back into the liquid.

First check your tap water to confirm that the ammonia reading is 0, as expected.
