    White sand

Looking for the best place for White sand for my Cichlid tank. (don't want to pay and arm and a leg for it) Online would be best since I live so far away from any city.

    Thanks

Silica encases the diatoms like a membrane and will sometimes cause diatoms(brown algae) in a new tank, which in time will go away once other algae take over and the silica dust is removed from the tank by multiple WC's.This can take weeks and even months to go away, but will.I just wipe it off with regular maintenance.

I get the Shaw filter sand at the pool supply store in Burnside and rinse it through a paint straining mesh.

Shaw won't ship a bag a silica sand

The aquaquartz pool filter sand from Canadian tire is the stuff I've been getting the last couple years. It's very white and gets a bit tan once it's in the tank for a while. It's a bit finer and more uniform in size than the others I've tried from different places.
