I really miss having mine. I had two before I had the internet. No one told me (not even at the pet store) that they were brackish. So its something I miss. I had 2 in a 15 gallon ( i know terrible, but the pet store workers said they would be fine in that)
They were 6 inches when they jumped out of the tank. My cat ate them over night :(
    Beautiful fish though.

Now I know they are brackish and heard that they need a full salt water set up down the road.

Hey Komodo, the Colombian Cats grow very quickly if you are feeding them well. They do get from 3-6" in a couple of months and that was feeding them every 3rd day in the store. I was keeping them at 1.010 salinity in a 110 gallon. You could probably grow one out to 12" in less than a year.

I will have to get a really large tank down the road. So for like a group of 6, you would need like over 300 gallons?

You're better off to do like I did and go buy yourself a Kiddie pool. 8 foot diameter, 450 gallons for 30.00$ and make you're own filter.

Then you could house a group of 6 no problems.

You should see how well stocked my pool is and how much fun it is to watch them. Especially during feeding time. Put it this way, you wouldn't know that there are 10 Oscars in there and a pacu. I'll have to make a list of what I have in there sometime. I'm sure there are at least 300 fish from 1.5" fry pool bred to that 28" knife fish that I adopted. He's put on a few inches since I have put him in his new home. Over filtering is key, I must be pumping around 1800 gallons per hour.
