Astatolapia Nubila Fry Are Here!

I was a little concerned when I bought these guys that their difficulty would be beyond me, but so far things have been going rather smoothly. As a result I have my first batch of fry from mama fish! I think that I will wait until these guys grow up before I attempt to raise another batch. No sense ending up with more fry than I can handle in my apartment!

Mama number 2 is still holding, but she has considerably less eggs, so I think I will let her go naturally and concentrate on my first spawn.

I've done a count of the babies and I have 34 little guys! Much smaller than I expected, but now I don't have to wonder where she was hiding them all.

Re: Astatolapia Nubila Fry Are Here!

you can have the 5 ones that look devious... you know the ones, they are the little dots in the corner lol.

I will make sure I save a few for you. I know I don't need to keep all 34! maybe 2 or 3 for myself. I just want to make sure I have a back up male and a couple more females from it.

Re: Astatolapia Nubila Fry Are Here!

Day 2:

The fry are still doing quite well. They were stationary for much of last night and seemed to prefer to hoover in place. this morning I fed them a mixture of live baby brine shrimp and Hikari First Bites. They seemed to enjoy it.

The fry are about half the size of the batch born a couple days earlier so I shall wait until they seem more robust before letting them leave the breeding net. I have heard that they grow quickly so I am sure that they will catch up reasonably well in a few days.
