Re: Zebra Plecs
I tried to feed mine everything from peas to romaine lettuce but i found that he loves blood worms. I also have driftwood in there for him as he needs this in his diet!

Is there anyone in the HRM that carries NLS?
My plecos are proving to be very finicky eaters and I'd like to try some of that food

Re: Zebra Plecs
The guy from Kameko's Cove in Liverpool comes to town from time to time, and I have bought NLS from him. You could e-mail him and see when his next visit will be.

Re: Zebra Plecs
Carriej at this size, a 5-10 gallon would be sufficient. Once they reach adult size a 15-20 would actually hold a pair or a trio no problem. I have 11 of the little guys in a 30 gallon as we speak and it's way too big haha.

Re: Zebra Plecs
*cough*
I may have gone and done it....
But aside from that. I am a little concerned over my little guys. They seem to have holed up under a piece of driftwood... I can still see them, but I am worried that they might not be coming out. I swear they just shift around, but I've haven't caught so much as a peak of them out from under that log in almost a week.
Is this normal behavior? At what point should I worry if they are eating of not? I've been sure to drop a bit of extra food down to the bottom of the tank for them at night... but I am just worried.

Re: Zebra Plecs
I wouldn't be worried yet. I'm betting that they are for sure coming out at night. I never ever see my pleco during the daybut I know he comes out at night because I put in a algae wafer in my tank, turn out the light and a few minutes later I see him swimming slowly out and eating the wafer.

Re: Zebra Plecs
Hey guys, i just put my second one in with my first one and they are doing great. Me and Sarah (bright eyes) were really worried also, but after alot of research i found an awesome sight. The link is up on this post anyway, Basically it said that they will hide A LOT. It actually says that if your pleco is out during the day and you see him a lot then there is a problem. The site says that happy zebra plecos will actually hide.
here is a quote from the site
"One thing I have noticed about the zebras is that, similarly to some other Hypancistrus species (most notably Queen Arabesques and L262), they tend not to get used to people and are generally very cautious even in the presence of their regular carer. I would recommend keeping as much as possible away from your zebra tank; this will put the fish at ease to go about their regular business. Whilst some of my other plecos do not mind, even enjoy, my presence around their tank (particularly when it comes to feeding times, when they line up at the front waiting), my zebras never do that. They will come out after I have left the vicinity of the tank and I can only watch them from a "safe" distance."

Re: Zebra Plecs
It is good to know that this is normal for them and I am not alone... that link has now been saved to my computer :D
It is a bummer that they won't learn to love me though, but they are still cool.

Re: Zebra Plecs
I don't have a zebra but I do have a queen arabesque. The only time I see it is when I clean the tank and even then its fleeting. Mine will come out briefly for special treats but I find it quite normal for plecos to hid a lot. I get more nervous when they don't hide.

Re: Zebra Plecs
I've had it awhile, 2 years maybe. Originally got it from PU Burnside I think. It is no where near as spectacular as your guys' zebras. I've been wanting one of those guys for years, the order just came at a bad time.
